18-Year-Old Killed in Single-Vehicle Crash in Dodge County
DODGE COUNTY, Wis. — A tragic single-vehicle crash claimed the life of an 18-year-old driver from Watertown on Saturday evening in the town of Shields, according to the Dodge County Sheriff’s Office.
Deputies were dispatched at approximately 6:28 p.m. on September 6, 2025, to the area of County Road Q and Pit Road after reports of a serious crash. Upon arrival, first responders located a heavily damaged vehicle deep within a wooded area off the roadway.
Preliminary investigation indicates that a 2006 Acura sedan was traveling northbound on County Road Q, south of Pit Road, when the driver lost control. The vehicle veered off the roadway, striking several trees before coming to rest about 50 yards into the wooded area.
Despite life-saving efforts from emergency crews, the 18-year-old driver was pronounced deceased at the scene. Authorities have confirmed the victim was a Watertown resident, though their identity is being withheld pending notification of family members.
Multiple agencies responded to the scene, including the City of Watertown Fire and EMS, the Dodge County Crash Investigation Team, the Dodge County Chaplains, and the Dodge County Emergency Response Team (DCERT). Together, they provided medical aid, investigated the crash site, and supported the family and community during the devastating incident.
Sheriff’s officials noted that the cause of the crash remains under investigation. It has not yet been determined whether speed, road conditions, or other factors may have contributed to the accident. Authorities are expected to release further information as the investigation progresses.
The crash left a somber mood in the small Dodge County community, where residents say accidents along rural roads are a recurring concern. The town of Shields, known for its narrow roads and wooded surroundings, has seen its share of traffic incidents over the years, though fatal crashes involving young drivers continue to weigh heavily on local families and schools.
The Dodge County Sheriff’s Office has urged motorists to exercise caution, especially along rural highways where road conditions and sharp turns can be unpredictable. Community members are also encouraged to keep the family of the young driver in their thoughts as they grieve the sudden and heartbreaking loss.
This incident marks yet another reminder of the fragility of life and the importance of safe driving, particularly for young drivers navigating rural Wisconsin roadways.
The Dodge County Sheriff’s Office confirmed that the investigation into the crash remains active. Additional updates will be provided once more details become available.
