Deadly Shooting Under Investigation in North Richland Hills
NORTH RICHLAND HILLS, Texas — Police in North Richland Hills are investigating a deadly shooting that occurred in the early hours of Sunday morning, leaving one person dead and another hospitalized.
According to the North Richland Hills Police Department, officers were dispatched just after midnight to reports of gunfire in the 8600 block of Airport Freeway. When they arrived at the scene, they located two individuals who had been shot.
One victim was pronounced deceased at the scene by emergency personnel. The second victim was rushed to a nearby hospital for treatment. Their current condition has not yet been made public.
As of now, police have not released the identities of either victim, pending family notification. No details have been provided regarding a possible suspect, motive, or events leading up to the shooting. Investigators remained at the scene through the early morning hours, collecting evidence and speaking with potential witnesses.
The stretch of Airport Freeway where the shooting occurred was temporarily closed to traffic as crime scene investigators documented the area. Police said the closure was necessary to preserve evidence and ensure the safety of first responders.
Residents in nearby neighborhoods reported hearing multiple gunshots shortly before law enforcement arrived. Some described the sound as “rapid” and “alarming,” prompting several 911 calls.
The deadly incident comes as North Richland Hills, like many communities across the Dallas–Fort Worth area, continues to confront challenges related to violent crime. While overall crime rates in the city remain lower than in some larger neighboring municipalities, law enforcement officials emphasize that shootings and violent confrontations continue to have a devastating impact on victims, families, and the community at large.
North Richland Hills Police are urging anyone with information about the shooting to contact the department directly. Those who wish to remain anonymous can provide tips through Crime Stoppers of Tarrant County at 817-469-8477 (TIPS).
Authorities stressed that community cooperation is essential in solving violent crimes such as this. “Every piece of information, no matter how small, could be critical to this investigation,” a police spokesperson said.
The investigation remains active, and updates will be provided as more information becomes available. For now, the tragic shooting has left one family mourning the loss of a loved one and another individual fighting to recover from their injuries.
