Fatal Crash Under Investigation on Ella T. Grasso Boulevard

In the early morning hours of Sunday, August 31, 2025, New Haven police and fire personnel responded to a fatal motor vehicle accident on the 500 block of Ella T. Grasso Boulevard, between Adeline Street and Printer’s Lane.

At approximately 2:50 a.m., officers were dispatched to the scene following reports that a vehicle had struck a tree and caught fire. Responding units from the New Haven Fire Department quickly worked to extinguish the blaze. After the flames were brought under control, firefighters made a tragic discovery: a deceased individual was located in the rear seat of the vehicle.

A short time later, police received word from Yale-New Haven Hospital that a second person, who appeared to have been involved in the same collision, had arrived at the emergency department by private vehicle. Despite efforts by medical staff, the 40-year-old male victim succumbed to his injuries.

Preliminary findings suggest that only one vehicle was involved in the crash. The identities of both victims are being withheld at this time, pending notification of their families.

The New Haven Police Department is actively investigating the circumstances leading up to the collision. Authorities are urging anyone who may have witnessed the incident or who has information that could assist investigators to come forward.
