In Loving Memory of Sergeant Michael “Mike” Flohr Badge DC58 An Honorable Servant, Leader, Husband, Father & Friend
The Gallatin County community is deeply grieving the tragic loss of Sergeant Michael Flohr, a respected member of the Gallatin County Sheriff’s Office Detention Center and a man whose presence represented integrity, dedication, and unwavering service. On Saturday afternoon, the Broadwater County Sheriff’s Office responded to a report of a hunting accident in Magpie Gulch, where Sgt. Flohr was discovered and pronounced deceased. His passing has sent shockwaves throughout the law enforcement community, his family, and all who had the honor of knowing him.
Today, the Gallatin County Sheriff’s Office has not only lost a colleague — it has lost one of its pillars. Sgt. Flohr was a guiding force, someone who led by example, showed up when it mattered most, and built his career on service, commitment, and compassion for others. To say he will be missed is an understatement that cannot begin to capture the depth of this loss.
A Leader Who Led With Strength and Heart
Sgt. Flohr was more than a uniform, a badge, or a title. He was a leader whose actions fostered unity, trust, and a sense of purpose. Those who worked with him describe him as steady, wise, patient, and deeply dedicated to the well-being and growth of his team. He believed in doing the right thing — not because it was written in a rulebook, but because it was the kind of man he was.
He mentored new deputies with humility, supported his colleagues through challenges, and approached every day with professionalism and pride. His work at the Detention Center wasn’t simply a job — it was a calling he honored with every shift, every decision, and every act of service.
A Man Devoted to Family and Community
Outside of the Sheriff’s Office, Sgt. Flohr was a loving husband, devoted father, and cherished friend. He was the kind of man who showed up — at ball games, family dinners, late-night talks, and mornings filled with routine and laughter. He loved deeply, cared fully, and built a life defined by commitment and love.
His family now faces a loss that words cannot ease. They remain surrounded by the unwavering support of both the community and his law enforcement family, who stand beside them in honor, grief, and remembrance.
A Legacy That Will Never Be Forgotten
The Gallatin County Sheriff’s Office has expressed the profound sadness felt throughout the department — a sadness shared by many across Montana. The loss of Sgt. Flohr touches not only those in public safety, but everyone who understands what it means to dedicate one’s life to others.
