CANTON, Ohio — Authorities are investigating the death of a man discovered inside his northeast Canton residence Tuesday evening.

According to Canton Police Chief John Gabbard, officers were dispatched around 6 p.m. on September 2 to conduct a welfare check at a home located at 1647 St. Elmo Avenue NE. When officers entered the residence, they found the body of 41-year-old Jake M. Young.

Police say Young died from an apparent gunshot wound. At this stage of the investigation, officials have not released additional details about the circumstances surrounding his death, including whether foul play is suspected. The Stark County Coroner’s Office is expected to perform further examinations to determine the official cause and manner of death.

The discovery has left the neighborhood shaken, with residents expressing concern about the incident and awaiting answers from law enforcement. Canton Police emphasized that the investigation is ongoing and that detectives are actively working to piece together what led to Young’s death.
