Central Police Identify Motorcyclist Killed in Frenchtown Road Crash as 51-Year-Old Basil Wayne Crawford
CENTRAL, La. — A tragic motorcycle accident claimed the life of a Pride man on Wednesday evening along Frenchtown Road, according to Central Police Chief Roger Corcoran.
Authorities reported that the single-vehicle crash occurred around 8:20 p.m. in the 17000 block of Frenchtown Road, a stretch known for its winding path and limited visibility in certain areas. Emergency responders rushed to the scene following multiple calls from bystanders who witnessed the crash.
The victim was later identified as 51-year-old Basil Wayne Crawford, who was operating the motorcycle at the time of the accident. Officials confirmed that Crawford was pronounced dead at the scene. No other vehicles were involved in the crash.
Investigators are still working to determine what caused the accident. Early indications suggest that speed and road conditions may have played a role, though police have not yet released any official findings. The motorcycle appeared to have left the roadway before crashing, sustaining heavy damage in the process.
Crawford’s sudden passing has left both his hometown of Pride and the Central community shaken. Known by friends and family as a hardworking, kindhearted man, Crawford enjoyed riding and was well-regarded for his loyalty to those close to him. His loss is being felt deeply by loved ones, who describe him as someone who lived life with passion and a strong sense of connection to others.
Chief Corcoran extended condolences on behalf of the department, acknowledging the tragedy of losing a member of the community in such a sudden manner. “Any loss of life on our roads is devastating,” Corcoran said. “Our thoughts and prayers are with the family of Mr. Crawford during this difficult time.”
Motorcycle crashes continue to highlight the vulnerability of riders compared to motorists in enclosed vehicles. Safety officials once again urge both motorcyclists and drivers to exercise heightened awareness and caution on the roadways, especially during evening hours when visibility is reduced.
Funeral arrangements for Basil Wayne Crawford are expected to be announced by his family in the coming days. Meanwhile, the Central Police Department’s Traffic Division is continuing its investigation into the cause of the accident.
