DETROIT, Mich. — What was meant to be a lively poolside gathering in Detroit last month turned into a night of horror after a deadly stabbing spree claimed two lives and left two others badly wounded.
According to Detroit police and prosecutors, the violence unfolded during a backyard pool party where tensions escalated over something that, at first, seemed trivial. Investigators say 31-year-old Daiwan Hobson became enraged after another man danced with his girlfriend. What began as a verbal argument quickly spiraled out of control, ending with four people stabbed and two fatally injured.
From Argument to Chaos
Witnesses told police that the dispute started in the backyard of the home, where the party was underway. The argument between Hobson and others intensified, and neighbors reported hearing yelling that drew more attention. Moments later, the situation spilled into the front yard, where Hobson allegedly pulled out a knife and began attacking people.

Prosecutors revealed that Hobson had only been released from prison in July 2025, just one month before the deadly stabbings. His early return to the community has raised questions about whether the tragedy could have been prevented.
Now, Hobson faces serious charges, including two counts of first-degree murder and two counts of assault with intent to murder. He is currently being held without bond as the case moves forward.
