Execution-Style Homicide – Altgeld Gardens

Date/Time: Saturday, August 30, 2025, at approximately 7:46 p.m.

On the evening of August 30, 2025, Chicago police officers were dispatched to the 900 block of East 131st Street in the Altgeld Gardens housing complex following reports of gunfire and a person shot. Upon arrival, officers discovered a 43-year-old female victim who had sustained multiple gunshot wounds.

Preliminary reports indicate that the victim had been standing outside when five unidentified male offenders approached her on foot. Without warning, the group of assailants produced firearms and opened fire, striking the woman several times before fleeing the scene. The attack appeared deliberate and execution-style, as the victim was targeted directly at close range.

Emergency medical services transported the victim to Advocate Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn, where she was later pronounced deceased despite efforts to save her. Her identity has not yet been released pending notification of next of kin.

At this time, police have not taken any offenders into custody. The motive for the shooting remains unknown, and detectives are actively working to determine whether the homicide was gang-related, retaliatory, or connected to other ongoing conflicts in the area. Witnesses in the community have described the chaos that unfolded as the shots rang out, sending bystanders scrambling for safety.

Area Two Detectives, along with officers from the Chicago Police Department’s 5th District, are leading the investigation. Detectives are canvassing the neighborhood for surveillance footage and interviewing potential witnesses in hopes of identifying the five suspects involved in the deadly attack.
