Fatal Crash on South Broadway: 31-Year-Old Woman Dies in Salem Accident
SALEM, N.H. – The Salem Police Department is actively investigating a tragic head-on collision that claimed the life of a Massachusetts woman late Friday night, September 5, 2025, on Route 28.
At approximately 9:55 p.m., Salem police and fire personnel responded to multiple 911 calls reporting a serious crash in the area of 501 South Broadway. Upon arrival, first responders found two heavily damaged vehicles blocking the roadway. Both drivers, who were the sole occupants of their vehicles, required immediate medical attention and were transported to nearby hospitals by Salem Fire Department paramedics.
Authorities confirmed that 31-year-old Amy Sideri of Saugus, Massachusetts, who had been driving a 2006 Hyundai Accent southbound on Route 28, sustained life-threatening injuries in the collision. Despite the efforts of emergency crews, Sideri was tragically pronounced deceased shortly after arriving at Lawrence General Hospital.
The second driver, identified as 53-year-old Scott Mitchell of Gorham, Maine, was operating a 2011 Toyota Sienna traveling northbound when the crash occurred. Mitchell was treated for minor injuries and later released from the hospital. Police noted that Mitchell has been fully cooperative with investigators as they work to piece together the events leading up to the fatal crash.
In order to preserve evidence and ensure a thorough investigation, South Broadway was shut down for several hours overnight as the Collision Analysis and Reconstruction Unit (CAR) examined the scene. Preliminary findings suggest that Sideri’s vehicle crossed into the northbound lanes for reasons that remain unclear, resulting in a violent head-on impact with Mitchell’s vehicle.
The crash has left the community shaken and raised questions about road safety along this busy stretch of Route 28. Authorities are now working to determine whether factors such as speed, impairment, or a possible medical emergency may have contributed to the collision.
The investigation remains ongoing, and police are urging anyone who may have witnessed the crash or who has additional information to come forward. Those with relevant details are encouraged to contact Officer Christopher Markey at the Salem Police Department.
As the investigation continues, Salem police expressed their condolences to the family and loved ones of Amy Sideri, whose sudden and tragic loss is deeply felt.
