Gone Too Soon: Remembering Fletcher Merkel and Harper Moyski
We mourn with the loved ones of the two innocent children whose lives were stolen in the tragic mass shooting at Annunciation Catholic Church in Minneapolis. Our hearts break for the families, friends, classmates, and community members who are forever changed by this senseless act of violence.
We will not elevate the name of the shooter. Instead, we choose to honor and remember the beautiful lives that were lost. #NoNotoriety
Fletcher Merkel, 8
Fletcher was just beginning to grow into the bright, curious boy his family and teachers adored. Known for his endless energy, goofy sense of humor, and kindness toward others, Fletcher lit up every room he entered. He loved soccer, comic books, and playing outside until the sun went down. His laughter was contagious, the kind of joy that made others instantly smile. Fletcher had big dreams—dreams that were taken far too soon.
Harper Moyski, 10
Harper was a caring, spirited child with a heart as big as her smile. She loved reading, drawing, and spending time with her friends. She was protective of her younger cousins, always looking out for them, and had a natural gift for making people feel loved and safe. Harper was curious about the world and already showed the determination and empathy that promised she would grow into someone who made a difference. Her light, too, was stolen much too early.
These children should be remembered not for the way their lives ended, but for the joy, love, and promise they carried. They should be remembered for the happiness they gave their families, the laughter they brought to their friends, and the hope they embodied for the future.
As we grieve, we must also honor their memory by speaking their names and telling their stories—not the story of the one who brought tragedy.
We say their names:
✨ Fletcher Merkel, 8
✨ Harper Moyski, 10
May their memories be a blessing, and may their loved ones find strength in the embrace of their community.
