Jackson Township Tragedy: Man Charged in Fatal Shooting of 28-Year-Old Toraya Reid

JACKSON TOWNSHIP, N.J. — Ocean County Prosecutor Bradley D. Billhimer has announced that Shaquille Green, 29, of Jackson Township, has been charged with Murder, Possession of a Weapon for an Unlawful Purpose, and Unlawful Possession of a Weapon following the fatal shooting of Toraya Reid, 28, also of Jackson. The tragic incident occurred on Saturday, September 6, 2025, at the Paragon Apartment Complex on Larsen Road.

The Incident

At approximately 11:00 a.m., officers from the Jackson Township Police Department responded to a 911 call reporting shots fired and an unresponsive woman lying in the roadway near the exit of the Paragon Apartments. When officers arrived, they discovered Ms. Reid, who had sustained multiple gunshot wounds. Tragically, she was pronounced deceased at the scene.

While responding units secured the area, additional officers observed a man fleeing on North New Prospect Road. The individual, later identified as Shaquille Green, was apprehended without incident and taken into custody. He was subsequently transported to Jackson Township Police Headquarters for questioning.

Investigation and Charges

A joint investigation conducted by the Ocean County Prosecutor’s Office Major Crime Unit, Jackson Township Police Department, and the Ocean County Sheriff’s Office Crime Scene Investigation Unit determined that Green, who had been in a dating relationship with Ms. Reid, was directly responsible for her death.

Based on the evidence gathered, Green was formally charged and transported to the Ocean County Jail, where he remains lodged pending a detention hearing.

Prosecutor’s Statement

Prosecutor Billhimer issued a statement commending the swift and coordinated response of law enforcement agencies:

“I want to commend the Ocean County Prosecutor’s Office Major Crime Unit, the Jackson Township Police Department, the Ocean County Sheriff’s Office Crime Scene Investigation Unit, and the Ocean County Medical Examiner’s Office for their collaborative efforts in connection with this investigation leading to Mr. Green’s swift apprehension.”

Legal Reminder

Officials have emphasized that the charges filed against Green are merely accusations, and he is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt in a court of law.

Community Impact

The death of Toraya Reid, a young woman with deep ties to her family and community, has sent shockwaves throughout Jackson Township and beyond. The violent nature of the crime, coupled with the alleged domestic relationship between Reid and Green, highlights ongoing concerns about intimate partner violence and its devastating consequences.

Law enforcement officials continue to urge anyone who may have additional information about the case to contact the Ocean County Prosecutor’s Office or the Jackson Township Police Department.
