Lewiston Police Investigate Overnight Shooting on Pierce Street

LEWISTON, Maine — Lewiston Police are actively investigating a late-night shooting that left a young man seriously injured. The incident occurred just after 11:00 p.m. Tuesday night in the area of 110 Pierce Street, a neighborhood that has seen its share of violent crime in recent years.

Authorities say that as officers were enroute to the scene, they received updates indicating the victim had already left the area and was being rushed to the hospital in a private vehicle.

The victim has since been identified as 24-year-old Abdiraham Duale of Lewiston. According to investigators, Duale sustained seven gunshot wounds during the incident. He was initially taken to St. Mary’s Hospital, where medical staff began emergency treatment. Due to the seriousness of his injuries, he was later transferred to Maine Medical Center in Portland. Police report that while his condition is serious, his injuries are not considered life-threatening at this time.

The unexpected arrival of a shooting victim at St. Mary’s triggered heightened security protocols. The hospital went into a brief lockdown as staff and security personnel worked to ensure the safety of patients, visitors, and employees. The lockdown was lifted once the situation was assessed and deemed secure.

Detectives and crime scene technicians returned to the Pierce Street area to collect evidence and canvass for witnesses. At this stage of the investigation, police have not released details on a possible suspect or motive. The shooting has left many residents in the area shaken, adding to growing concerns about gun violence within the community.

Lewiston Police emphasized that the investigation remains active and urged anyone with information to come forward. Individuals can reach out directly to Detective Tyler Martin at tmartin@lewistonmaine.gov or leave an anonymous tip by calling 513-3194.

Community members are hopeful that swift investigative work will bring answers and accountability. Meanwhile, city officials continue to stress the importance of community cooperation in helping law enforcement address violent crime.
