WELLFORD, S.C. — Authorities in Spartanburg County are investigating a tragic homicide following a deadly shooting that unfolded Wednesday night in the Wellford community.
According to the Spartanburg County Sheriff’s Office, deputies were called to the 200 block of Tanglewood Road shortly before 10 p.m. after receiving reports of shots fired. When officers arrived, they discovered a man suffering from fatal gunshot wounds. Despite emergency efforts, he was pronounced deceased at the scene.
The Spartanburg County Coroner’s Office later identified the victim as 32-year-old Dyshawn Lamar Moore, who was pronounced dead at 9:45 p.m. Investigators say Moore’s death has been ruled a homicide, sparking an urgent investigation into the circumstances surrounding the shooting.
As the case developed, authorities announced they have identified a suspect connected to the killing. Jaquavias Raeshun Moses, 29, has been formally charged with murder and is currently wanted by law enforcement. Deputies described Moses as armed and dangerous, urging the public to avoid approaching him and instead call 911 immediately if spotted.
The Sheriff’s Office is working closely with the Coroner’s Office and other investigative units to gather evidence, interview witnesses, and determine the events leading up to the shooting. Authorities have not released details on a possible motive but confirmed that the investigation remains active and ongoing.
In a statement, officials emphasized the importance of community assistance in locating Moses. “We are asking anyone with information regarding the whereabouts of Jaquavias Raeshun Moses to come forward,” the department said, noting that anonymous tips can also be submitted through Crime Stoppers.
The death of Dyshawn Lamar Moore has shaken the Wellford community, where neighbors expressed grief and concern following the violence. Many residents described the area as typically quiet and say the tragedy has left them deeply unsettled.
