Port Huron Police Investigating Fatal Domestic Shooting on 10th Avenue
PORT HURON, Mich. — A tragic domestic-related shooting has left a young man dead and a community shaken. The Port Huron Police Department is actively investigating the fatal incident that unfolded late Wednesday night, September 3, on the city’s south side.
At approximately 11:21 p.m., officers were dispatched to the 1400 block of 10th Avenue after multiple 911 calls reported gunfire inside a residence. Upon arrival, police discovered 23-year-old Chase Hunter Hoyt, also identified by authorities as Chase Herman, suffering from a severe gunshot wound to the abdomen.
Officers immediately rendered aid, performing CPR until Tri-Hospital EMS personnel arrived and rushed Hoyt to a nearby hospital. Despite the emergency response and continued medical efforts, Hoyt was tragically pronounced dead a short time later.
Inside the residence, officers also located an 11-year-old child, who was found unharmed and placed in the care of family members. Authorities have not disclosed the child’s relationship to those involved, but confirmed that social services are assisting to ensure the child’s wellbeing.
During the preliminary investigation, police identified 40-year-old Jennifer Lynn Goodall as the primary suspect in the shooting. Goodall was taken into custody without further incident and later booked into the St. Clair County Jail. She remains behind bars as detectives continue their investigation into the circumstances leading up to the violence.
Port Huron Police described the case as stemming from a domestic disturbance, though additional details on what transpired prior to the gunfire have not yet been released. Detectives are expected to consult with the St. Clair County Prosecutor’s Office regarding potential charges in the coming days.
The fatal shooting has left neighbors and community members reeling, with many expressing shock over the violence. Domestic-related incidents continue to be a leading cause of serious injury and death nationwide, and officials emphasized the importance of seeking help when disputes escalate.
