Two Dead, Two Hospitalized After Shooting in Mount Washington
CINCINNATI — A violent shooting in the Mount Washington neighborhood left two people dead and two others hospitalized Sunday afternoon, prompting a heavy police response and an ongoing investigation.
The Incident
According to Cincinnati police, the shooting began around 1:30 p.m. near the intersection of Beacon Street and Glade Avenue. Authorities said a gunman opened fire inside and outside of a residence, killing two victims and critically injuring another before turning the gun on himself.
The shooter and one surviving victim were transported to the University of Cincinnati Medical Center, where both remain in critical condition.
Cincinnati Police Captain Mark Cunningham confirmed that when responding officers arrived on scene, shots were still being fired. Police immediately secured the area to prevent further injuries.
Victims
Authorities have not yet released the identities of the deceased or injured, pending family notification. One of the critically injured victims was transported by ambulance alongside the shooter, and both continue to receive treatment at the hospital.
Police Response
Law enforcement said the shooting took place both inside and outside the residence, though further details about how the violence began have not been released. The scene remains under active investigation as detectives work to determine a motive.
By mid-afternoon, officers had cordoned off the surrounding streets. At 4:30 p.m., Beacon Street was blocked between Ambar Avenue and Sherman Avenue as investigators collected evidence and canvassed the neighborhood for witnesses.
Community Impact
While the shooting shook the quiet Mount Washington neighborhood, officials reassured residents that there is no ongoing threat to the community. Police stressed that the violence appears to be contained to the individuals directly involved.
Neighbors, however, described the scene as chaotic, with multiple gunshots heard before emergency sirens filled the area. One resident said, “We never expect something like this to happen here. It’s terrifying.”
Ongoing Investigation
Detectives are working to piece together the sequence of events, including what led to the shooting and the relationships among those involved. Forensic teams remained at the scene into the evening, gathering ballistic evidence and interviewing potential witnesses.
The Cincinnati Police Department is urging anyone with information about the shooting to contact their investigators or submit tips anonymously through Crime Stoppers at 513-352-3040.
